Families will now have places in the private sector crèches that exist in their parish, and in extended hours. The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Rosario Palma Ramalho, has approved new measures to extend the choice of families to support children up to the age of 3.

Parents can now have access to a free crèche in the private sector, if in their parish of residence or work there is no vacancy in the social and solidarity network. The area considered thus becomes the parish and not the county, as was the case until now. A shift to reduce commuting between work, crèche and residence, improving the quality of family life.

On the other hand, private crèches can now benefit from additional public funding when they work more than 11 hours a day, in the same way as social and solidarity crèches.

These measures are part of policies to promote the birth rate and encourage families to have more children, ensuring a balance between work, personal and family life.’
