National Campaign on Family Reception - There are many children dreaming of you
05/09/2023
The theme of family care for children and young people gains more strength from today, with the start of the dissemination of a National Campaign in the media. Under the motto “A lot of kids are dreaming about you. Dreaming of a foster family. Don't leave the dream at the door.”, this campaign, under the responsibility of the Social Security Institute in conjunction with all the managing bodies of the family care system (Casa Pia de Lisboa, Guarantee for Childhood, ISS Açores, ISS Madeira and Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa), aims to raise awareness and attract potential candidates to foster families for children and young people, strengthening and diversifying the response capacity installed. Family care is a promotion and protection measure, decided by a Protection Commission or a Court, and the child or young person is temporarily entrusted to a family, duly certified for this purpose, providing them with their integration into a structured family environment and the provision of care appropriate to their needs, with a view to their full development and the implementation of their promotion and protection project. The ISS Family Reception Network currently has 20 cooperation agreements with IPSS that take on the role of host family framing institutions. These institutions have been developing actions to raise awareness, attract, train and certify new host families in their territories of operation, with the prospect that they may come to frame host families that allow to welcome more than 500 children and young people. In the context of the Promotion and Protection System, foster families are seen as an element of support to the State in ensuring the protection of children and young people in danger, constituting the act of welcoming an act of solidarity and, above all, of love, and more than a social response, it is an option, a project that these families assume in their lives and that will remain as long as it is felt in this way. International experience tells us that family care requires a continuous dissemination that makes it possible to raise awareness of its importance, as well as its continuous renewal and expansion, either through broader campaigns aimed at the general public, or through more specific actions aimed at target audiences or certain territories, in a concerted action between management entities and management institutions. It is in this context that the current National Campaign on Family Reception emerges. For more information go to the website of the Institute of Social Security, IP
