The story of António Quadros e Costa, part of the series New Portuguese Faces, developed by PEOPLE 2030, illustrates the positive impact of the Support Model for Independent Living (MAVI). An agronomist, António manages to reconcile the management of a farm and his work at EDIA thanks to the support of his personal assistant, Saeid Shaqra, who guarantees him the necessary autonomy for his professional and daily activities.
MAVI is a public policy instrument, operationalized by the Centers for Support to Independent Living (CAVI), which offers personalized assistance (from basic care to support in work and leisure) as an alternative to institutionalization, promoting self-determination and social inclusion.
Supported by the Portuguese State and the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) through the PEOPLE 2030 programme, the measure received a total eligible investment of €28.7 million until July 2026, reaffirming the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for all people to actively participate in society.
