15/06/2026
Crèches with extended hours may request additional financial assistance until 30 June
Crèches that operate more than 11 hours a day, in response to the needs of parents or those who exercise parental responsibilities, may benefit from an additional financial contribution granted by the Social Security Institute.
This support, provided for under the Commitment for Cooperation for the Social and Solidarity Sector and its addenda, is intended for Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS) and equivalent entities with a cooperation agreement, as well as for private crèches that have joined at the end of their membership.
Entities interested in implementing or maintaining an opening hours of more than 11 hours per day from September 2026 must submit their application to the District Social Security Centre of the area where the crèche is located, by 30 June 2026.
Member private crèches will now be able to benefit from the additional financial contribution provided for in the legislation in force. The measure is the result of the entry into force of the Ministerial Implementing Order No 158/2024/1 of 6 June 2024, which extends access to this support to private entities meeting the established requirements.
The additional financial contribution is provided for in Article 6.º of the Ministerial Implementing Order No 198/2022 of 27 July 2022, by strengthening support for social responses aimed at early childhood.
